What is The Rustenburg Taxi Negotiation Forum?
The Rustenburg Taxi Negotiation Forum (TNF) comprises representatives of 9 minibus taxi associations who are potentially affected by the introduction of the Rustenburg Rapid Transit project – Yarona.
The TNF is chaired by Mr Sebego who is also the chairperson of NORTACO & the Greater Rustenburg Taxi Council. Members of the TNF were duly mandated by their respective associations to represent the best interests of the minibus taxi industry as the Rustenburg Municipality prepares to roll out elements of an Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network in their jurisdiction.
Whilst members were elected by associations, once on the TNF they must engage the project in its entirety and from the perspective of the entire taxi sector.
The role of the TNF incudes providing regular report back to association executives and general membership as the engagement continues. The process of engagement is likely to include:
- Understanding the concept of Yarona and the scale of change required ;
- Undertaking formal negotiations with the Rustenburg Local Municipality and other transport operators who are likely to be affected. These negotiations will be chaired by an independent facilitator/s.
- Presenting the proposition to members to make a business decision about whether they want to participate.
- If operators elect to participate ensuring that all processes are followed to set up a new company, ensure training of relevant stakeholders and get ready to run operations.
This entire process will require a lot of communication and presents a lot of change. TNF members will serve the best interests of the industry at all times and assist operators to navigate the change process. FOT are the technical advisors assisting the industry in this process.
